Insurance for Enclosed Exotic Car Transport: What's Covered

Carrier cargo insurance is the first line of protection, but it is not unlimited. Most enclosed carriers carry cargo coverage, but the per-vehicle limit may be well below the value of an exotic or collector car.

Request a copy of the carrier's certificate of insurance before booking. It will list the policy limit, deductible, and named perils. If your vehicle's value exceeds the limit, you need supplemental coverage.

Agreed-value or stated-value policies from a classic car or exotic insurer often extend coverage while the vehicle is in transit, but confirm whether the policy applies when the car is in the care of a commercial carrier.

Contingent coverage, offered by some brokers and third parties, fills the gap if the carrier's insurance denies a claim or the limit is insufficient. It is worth asking about for vehicles above the standard cargo cap.

Document the vehicle's condition thoroughly with date-stamped photos before pickup. In the event of a claim, the Bill of Lading and pre-shipment photos are your primary evidence of the vehicle's prior condition.
